Afina at the 2022 U.N. Ocean Conference

Afina International CEO David Godfrey-Thomas will join global stakeholders as a Delegate to the United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon, Portugal from 27 June to July 1 2022.

Co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal, the Ocean Conference comes at a critical time. The ocean covers 70 percent of the Earth’s surface and generates 50 percent of the oxygen we breathe. Yet, rising sea levels, ocean warming and acidification threaten biodiversity, food security and livelihoods. The Ocean Conference seeks to propel innovative solutions and operational collaborations that accelerate a new chapter of sustainable action for the oceans, seas and marine resources.

Relevant stakeholders in attendance will include Heads of State, U.N. Member States, specialized agencies and parties to the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea; intergovernmental organizations, international financial institutions and other international bodies; as well as non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector and philanthropic organizations.
